This solid, reinforced concrete chalet was among the first wave of up-market chalets rolled out in Niseko since it came to world attention in the late 2000s. While not as decadent as some of the multi-million dollar mansions that have been built over the past few years, Yuki Ten still holds its own as a luxurious and comfortable winter retreat.

Concrete is one of the materials of choice in modern Japanese architecture, and the local builders do it beautifully. The large open-plan living areas and warm interior furnishing contrasts with the stark exterior, striking a lovely balance between chic and cosy.

Bedrooms are on the second floor, while the ground floor is a spacious open-plan living, dining kitchen area, with the lounge and entertainment space alongside floor to ceiling windows that look up towards the ski mountain, which is beautifully lit up at night. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook a meal fit for an emperor, meanwhile there is all the mod cons required for modern entertainment – wireless internet, wide-screen TV with on-demand content.

Yuki Ten

Yuki Ten is located in a quiet, snowy part of Lower Hirafu, which is becoming one of the prestigious areas of Niseko. There are dozens of huge multi-million dollar homes being built all around this area, as well as plenty of mid-range chalets like Yuki Ten, and a few older pensions and houses.

It’s not really walking distance to the lifts from here, but if you’re really keen you most definitely could – it will probably take 10-20 minutes. This property comes with bookable guest ski lift shuttle though, and there is also the free village shuttle bus stop just a few metres from the house.

There are a half a dozen or so fantastic restaurants and bars within walking distance – perfect if you want to have a few drinks and be close to home. The closest restaurant is Rin, an izakaya style restaurant that you will need to book well before you arrive. The famous Fridge Door Bar is also close by.
