Kokoro means “Heart” in Japanese, and this lodge certainly does everything right to win yours. It is gorgeous and modern, with all the trimmings that make for an unforgettable Niseko stay. Wood and stone finishes inside and out create a natural, earthy feel that matches the gorgeous natural setting. In the bedrooms, the styling is simple and clean, with dark polished wood highlighting window frames and ceiling beams.
Meanwhile, in the open-plan living spaces, there are rough-hewn stone walls and polished wood finishes on floor and ceiling. A feature gas fireplace creates a connecting window between the spacious lounge area and entrance hall. The chalet has three floors, two of them above ground. The lower floor has all the functional spaces – an indoor garage, dry room, ski storage area and laundry. There is one bedroom on this lower level and a spacious dedicated media room with its own entertainment setup and a billiards table.
The street entrance is on the middle floor, as is the open-plan living area. There is a full-featured kitchen and dining space, with walk-in pantry and balcony barbecue giving you all you need to create some culinary delights. The top level houses four more bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom.

BEDROOM 1
Located on the lower level, the first bedroom can be found at the back of the dedicated media and games room, downstairs from the main living area. Two guests can stay in either one king double or two single beds, according to needs. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower. This is a good space for independent-minded guests who want a bit of extra privacy from the main group, also good for older children that might enjoy staying up late in the games room while the rest of the house sleeps upstairs.

Located on the top level, the second bedroom sleeps up to two guests in either one king double or two single beds, arranged to suit your needs. BEDROOM 4
The fourth bedroom is on the top level, and although especially kid-friendly, adults can comfortably sleep here too. Up to four can sleep in two sets of bunk beds, with each of the four beds being single size. There is a storage closet in the room, and room to play as well. En suite is a bathroom with bathtub and shower, and a separate en suite toilet, so that four guests can use the room comfortably.

BEDROOM 5 – MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom is the grandest of them all, located next door to the kids’ bedroom on the top level of the building, with two guests sleeping in either one king double or two single beds. There is a walk-in closet to store everything you need, windows with views across two sides of the building, and an en suite bathroom with toilet, shower and bathtub – which also features views of the village.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Kokoro is located in Izumikyo 2. This is a peaceful, secluded area full of pensions, log houses and chalets, about a 20-minute walk from central Hirafu. Unlike crowded Hirafu Village, this area allows for plenty of space between buildings. The views are of an idyllic winter landscape.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
If there is a driver in your group, the chalet management will provide a free rental vehicle for the duration of your stay (provided you have an international license to drive). Otherwise, there is a free village shuttle with a stop just a three minutes’ walk to Kokoro which will whisk you up the lifts in about five minutes.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
You’ll need to go into the village to access the real hub of Hirafu, but this tranquil area of town also has some of its own hidden gems. Don’t miss Niseko’s traditional speciality soup curry at Tsubara Tsubara, and the sandwiches are delicious at Graubunden, which also serves hot breakfasts and coffees!

We had a fantastic stay, we had a group of 11 people and everyone was very comfortable. The kitchen and rooms were all immaculate and a great place to enjoy after a session on the slopes.
