Tucked away as the lower ground level of a chalet, set below road level overlooking a beautiful forest and fields, this truly is a hidden gem. It’s set in The Escarpment estate, a prestigious enclave of luxury houses just below Hirafu Village, making this a truly exclusive place to stay for special guests.

The architecture mimics the traditional Japanese art of origami paper folding,  with sliding panels and doors opening to make smaller or larger spaces, or revealing different features like the central bath which enjoys the incredible views.

After entering into the house you walk straight into the living, dining kitchen area. The dining table adjoins the kitchen making this a nice and social open place space. A sunken lounge drops off below the whole space a nice place to entertain. Further along is another lounge alongside the bath, and at the end of the building are the bedrooms.

Hideaway on Escarpment

Hideaway on Escarpment is located in the beautiful Escarpment Estate, which is an exclusive street off the bottom of Hirafu Village. It’s a totally new master-planned street with no powerlines and a dozen incredible large, modern chalets.

It’s a long but beautiful walk up to the lifts and into the village and probably not advised in ski boots. However the property comes with a complimentary shuttle service that can take you to the lifts or anywhere in the village between 8am and 7:30pm after booking.

A short walk up into Lower Hirafu will reveal a half dozen of Niseko’s most unique restaurants and bars. There’s a bar with a half-size fridge door, several excellent izakaya restaurants, and even a tattoo bar should the urge strike to make a permanent reminder of your holiday :)

We LOVE the style! I love the name and it’s perfect for this hidden gem. The design is fantastic and we really like the feeling as soon you walk into the property. The design is clever with the living area that can be closed off with a bathroom creating a 3rd bedroom. I think this is perfect for kids but not too young as the onsen is right next door in the living room. The highlight is the amazing onsen overlooking Mt Yotei. Why don’t more properties have these? I loved that it was in the living area and not hidden away in the basement like many properties seem to do. Or on a balcony where you have no control on the cold air outside. With this design, we could open up the sliding doors or close. The dining table is big enough to sit 8 guests, but pretty bright during the day trying to sit there and work as the blinds don’t cut out the light. But if you are out skiing then it’s not a problem. I found the chairs to be very comfortable too.

We are a big fan of Apple TV’s and love that this place had one. The couch looked cool but when watching TV not very comfortable. More cushions may have helped but for me I love the lounges where you sink in and can really relax. But not sure something like this would compliment the design of the interior.

The fold away gym area is a brilliant idea and it just needs some weights and it’s perfect for those wanting to keep fit. I opened the door and that was enough exercise for me 😉
Highly recommend this place for a couple or small family wanting a touch of luxury. You do need a car for staying down here otherwise it’s a long walk up.
