Description

Glasshouse is a beautifully crafted dream home built for winters of entertaining in the snow.

Glasshouse is a true luxury designer chalet, set in a spectacular cliff-side location on the lower-most boundary of the Hirafu Lower Village – with nothing between the cliff edge and the towering peak of Mt Yotei. It’s dubbed Glasshouse for the floor-to-ceiling windows encasing the top floor living and dining area and inviting the outside in – but there’s a whole lot more to this chalet than just views.

Sleeps: 10 guests (12 max)

Glasshouse was built as the Niseko dream home of Australian Simon Robinson, the man who essentially kicked off the modern Niseko development boom. After building dozens of chalets and a handful of condominium apartment buildings in the mid-2000s, he set about building his own place in the snow. Himself a restaurateur, Robinson wanted a place where he could cook and entertain guests amidst the snowbound landscape he now calls home.

Having grown up on the beaches of Sydney, he wanted Glasshouse to inspire the same lively holiday atmosphere as beach houses back home, but with Japanese design features and construction to handle the harsh winter environment. Black industrial steel and concrete, often seen in modern Japanese architecture, meet warm exposed timber beams and floors reminiscent of ancient Japanese castles and shrines. Beautifully scented and textured hinoki (Japanese cypress) timber in the upstairs bathroom is a luxurious touch. Oh, and it has an outdoor hot tub – boom!

All bedrooms are on the lower level. There are four bathrooms: one ensuite adjoining the master bedroom, two shared bathrooms downstairs, and one upstairs, adjoining the hot tub. The kitchen was designed by a chef, for a chef. Needless to say it has all the latest appliances for the finest cooking, and is well laid out for ease of cooking. A bar with chairs alongside allows guests to keep the chef company while food is being prepared. The views here are second to none. The house was built with its broadest side facing Mt Yotei, and deliberately on the cliff edge ensuring the views are unobstructed.

The views are stunning of Mt Yotei! All of the bedrooms are on the first floor and upstairs in the living and dining room with kitchen. Plus the very cool indoor Jacuzzi. There is also another Jacuzzi downstairs but this time outside overlooking the snow and forest below. The property comes with a cool bunk room for kids and has a ski valet during your stay to access the lifts with ease.
