Expedition is a great place to rest your head after a long day’s expedition! And also great for kids too. Hidden away in a valley just off Hirafu Lower Village, Expedition has the best of all worlds. It’s nice and peaceful day and night, with no passing traffic and just the sound of settling snow and the occasional thump of powder clump falling from a tree branch. Kids can play outside all day long with mountains of snow to make snow men, have snowball fights or slide around on their toboggans or skis.
However the beauty of Expedition is that just a few steps up out of the valley and you’re in Lower Hirafu Village, with several restaurants and bars nearby, and right on the shuttle bus route to take you anywhere in the village you wish. It’s about three or four minutes by shuttle up to the family run or Ace Quad.
When it comes to down time there are two lounge rooms and two separate kitchen/dining spaces on different levels. With high ceilings and oak floors, it has a great ski chalet vibe. There is also a Japanese style irori fire pit that seats 10 people for a touch of local character. A wall projector and 65-inch plasma will keep you entertained if you get sick of watching the snow fall outside.
Expedition has 3 bedrooms and sleeps eight guests. There are two doubles (king or twin single) as well as a “big kids” or guests room with two bunk beds sleeping four. There is one bathroom with bath, and three other toilets. It also come with a full laundry.
Expedition is located just outside the Hirafu Lower Village. It’s about 15 minutes walk or very short shuttle bus ride up to the centre of town where the two main roads intersect and where the famous Seicomart Convenience store is. The Ace Family lift is also just a two minute walk from here. Families and beginners can ski here, while intermediate and advanced skiers can catch a lift up to the upper parts of the mountain from here.
Hirafu Village is full of great restaurants throughout its various areas. The lower village has a few great restaurants and a couple of bars that are well within walking distance from the chalet. There’s also an outdoor onsen (hot spring bath) nearby which is a great place to head with the whole family in the afternoon or evening after a day on the mountains.
