Description

Hangloose Hirafu Backpackers is a great old lodge turned backpackers close to the action.

Hangloose Hirafu Backpackers gives you the opportunity to experience the Niseko of old. That is, quirky, rustic old mountain lodge in the quiet mountainside backstreets of Lower Hirafu Village. Step out the front door and walk up the hill to the ski lifts and you’ll pass lots of multi-million dollar chalets and condos which might spoil your fantasy. But if you jump on the free shuttle, make a beeline for the first lift of the morning and get the first track down through miles of fresh powder, your experience will be no different to what the crustiest of old powder bums have been experiencing here for decades. In fact, check out some old ski/snowboard movies of Niseko and before long you’ll come across scenes filmed in Hangloose.

Hangloose was one of Niseko’s big, old iconic pensions – a pension being a bed-and-breakfast-style, family-run lodge. In about 2009 it became a simpler backpackers lodge without the bells and whistles, but it has retained its charm and atmosphere, and become a great friendly backpacker lodge.

Bathroom facilities are shared and there’s a relaxing lounge room with fireplace. It will be like your home away from home. The staff are super stoked and always happy to help. Even if you’re travelling solo you won’t feel along. You’re sure to make friends to go skiing or riding with as well. There’s always a movie playing on the big screen TV, as well as a big kitchen where you can cook your own meals, and then eat with others at the dining table as well.

Despite how lively and friendly it is, you can also retire to your room and get some peace and quiet. The lodge has free wireless and a drying room for your gear too. Lock it in!

Hangloose Hirafu Backpackers Location

Coming back late at night? It’s just an easy stumble back downhill into the lower village to your bed. There’s even a few bars in the vicinity, including legendary cocktail and whisky bar Gyu+ (aka Fridge Door Bar).
