Description

Mushroom Apartments is a cute and cosy pair of apartments right in the heart of Hirafu Village – and we mean right in the heart! Step out the door and a few steps up the street and you’re at the Seicomart, the unofficial central landmark of Hirafu.

The apartments are well priced which is great considering they are very comfortable, self contained and so convenient to everything in Hirafu. They also come with wifi internet. Both apartments have quality bedding and are nicely furnished with local artwork on the walls. They have great views of both the ski mountain and the picturesque volcano you’ve probably seen in the photos – Mt Yotei.

They are owned by an Australian man and his Japanese wife who were longtime residents of Tokyo before moving to Niseko for the quiet life in the early 2000s. They also run the renowned restaurant next door, Ezo Seafoods. Dropping in here for a meal is a must to meet the couple and to taste the incredible seafood that they source from the finest fishing and seafood ground across Hokkaido. But be warned you will need to book early – staying in the Mushroom Apartment unfortunately doesn’t get you any special treatment!

Mushroom Apartments Accommodation

Mushroom Apartment 1 has three bedrooms and sleeps five people, with a fold-out bed to sleep a sixth if necessary. It has two big rooms in a twin configuration, and another cosy single room. The rooms have a cupboard and basic room amenities including a lamp and bedside table. The living space off the kitchen gets good light in the mornings and amazing views of Mt Yotei, assuming they’re not all covered in clouds (which isn’t guaranteed between December and February!). It also has a heater so it’s a great warm place to spend the evenings and prepare for the days ahead. There are leather couches and a TV with satellite channels as well as a DVD player. There is a small bathroom but within walking distance there are four great onsens (hot spring baths), so you may only need to use the shower a handful of times – an onsen a day is an absolute luxury and something you’ll miss back home.

Mushroom Apartment 2 is on the opposite side of the building and therefore gets the afternoon sun, with views of the surrounding landscape and the peak of Mt Annupuri (the ski mountain). It has two twin rooms and comfortably sleeps four people. There is also a fold out bed for up to two extras if required. Both rooms have cupboards and small bedside tables with lamps on them. The lounge room has leather lounges and there is a small self-contained kitchen if you do choose to eat in. The apartment has satellite TV and a rudimentary bathroom, but as mentioned above, you are advised to use the onsen as often as possible!

There is a ski storage on the ground floor as well as a washer and dryer which is coin-operated.

Mushroom Apartments Location

Mushroom apartments is located right near the crossroads of Hirafu’s two main streets, Hirafu-zaka and Route 393. Hirafu-zaka heads up to the main ski slopes and 393 heads to the other resorts. To get to the slopes either walk five minutes to the Ace Family lift and ski there or cath the lift further up the mountain, or catch the shuttle bus up to the Ace Quad lift at the top of Hirafu Zaka Street, or the gondola. Or you can catch buses out to the other resorts.

All around this area are dozens or restaurants and bars, and if you need to get to any bars on the other side of Hirafu, you can catch the free village shuttle.
