Akazora means “red sky” in Japanese and the red Japanese “torii” shrine gates inspired the apartment complex’s design. The red theme carries through autumn, when the street’s momiji trees – Japanese miniature maples – turn Niseko ablaze ahead of the winter snows. Perfectly matching this Japanese theme, the apartments blend Western convenience with Eastern inspiration in chic international resort style.

Akazora has 26 boutique apartments featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony for 1 and 2 bedrooms treating guests to sweeping views of Niseko’s landscape, including Mt Yotei. You can choose between village views, ski mountain views, or Mt Yotei views, with the price ascending in that order.

Studio apartments are designed with compact and functional kitchen and eating areas and washing machine; the larger one and two-bedrooms feature open-plan kitchen and breakfast bar opening into dining and living rooms framed by full-wall windows. The studio and one-bedroom apartments have one bathroom each, and the two-bedroom apartments have two bathrooms, including one en suite to the master bedroom.

Akazora
Location

Setting / Atmosphere

Akazora is pretty much in the dead centre of Hirafu Middle Village, in an area fairly densely populated by apartments and chalets. Interspersed along the same street (Momiji Zaka Street) are several restaurants and bars.

Lifts / Transport

Akazora is about five minutes’ walk to the Ace Family pair chairlift, from where you can spend the day on the family run, or link up further up the mountain. The free shuttle bus stop is just a few metres from the door, so all other lifts are within easy access. Oh and there’s free parking if you’ve got wheels.

Restaurants / Bars

These apartments are in the perfect “walk anywhere” spot in Hirafu Village, just steps away from popular restaurants such as The Barn, TukTuk, Ezo Seafoods, Little Red Momiji’s gyoza bar, Barunba, Tamashii, Splash and the Half Note jazz bar. Just a few minutes’s walk outside the boundaries of the street and there are dozens more dining and drinking options to choose from. Plus, the all-important Seicomart convenience store is close by too.

My girlfriend and I had a snowboarding trip in Niseko this winter. We enjoyed our trip with the AKOZORA. I highly recommend renting a car and traveling there, even if there are shuttles around the Niseko area. This hotel is located on one of the main streets of Niseko village. There are many restaurants and food trucks near the hotel.

By Niseko’s standard, this property is below par in terms of service quality. I moved to the Aspect down the road after three days in Akazora and the service quality is Far higher – most importantly Aspect (as well as many Niseko properties) has a car pickup and drop off service so I can make it to the lift at 8am without any trouble and I can be picked up from the Hirafu gondola after I finish. Akazora only does pick up and drop off on day one and last day. In addition from the time I booked till the day I arrived, I had to reply to many emails from their outsourced admin desk asking me many questions which made me feel very frustrated.

We absolutely LOVE the AKOZORA each and every time we stay there, so much so that when we were there for our 5th stay in Jan this year we looked into purchasing one of the apartments however they only had the Studio Apartments for sale. I cringe every time I write a review about the AKOZORA because word spreads quickly and it gets harder each year to secure one for our next trip because it is in high demand. They had a new Front Desk team there this year, two of whom are Nic and Nick (guy & girl) who we met on arrival on our first day and as always they were so hospitable across the board and so very helpful to our queries. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay our full 12 nights there so had to spend our first 4 nights at The Flow (I will review this apartment shortly). I will say that we were so happy when we transferred across to the Akozora as it really is like our “home away from home” and we settled in nicely. What I love about this place, aside from the fact they have a Front Desk which is staffed until 9pm every night? The apartments incl the Studio are very spacious and storage/hanging space for almost everything. The bus stop is right outside and it is very central to restaurants, bars, seikomart, ski/board stores be it hiring or buying gear/clothing etc. Each apartment has its own Kitchen and Laundry Closet (a real must have treat for us) which is sized appropriately to each apartment from the Studio thru to the 2 brm apts. They also pick you up and drop you off at the WELCOME CENTER upon arrival/departure. We always book through Joel & Dylan from HOLIDAY NISEKO who do an equally awesome job at looking after us throughout the year with booking preparations etc for the AKOZORA. I can’t say enough good things about this little gem except for it’s one of the more, still affordable accommodations in Middle Hirafu, Niseko which is why I have already started looking at availability, so all going well we’ll be heading back yet again in 2019:)

Location of these apartments was ideal right in the heart of the action, with pubs, clubs, restaurants, food vans and supermarkets just a short couple of minute stroll away.

Ace ski lift was only a 5 min walk downhill in the mornings if that.
The welcome center was a little bit of a hike about 10 min or so, but there is busses running every 10 min so that wasn’t a hassle at all. Or if you prefer the walk which we did there is a nice whisky bar half way.

Apartment was great and had everything we needed, staff were also fantastic and helpful for whatever we needed.
I would definitely recommend these apartments and will be back for sure.

Powderlife were also fantastic and handled everything for us right down to the airport transfers ect.

I don’t have anything negative to say about the whole experience and I will also be using powderlife again for my next snow holiday. Highly recommended on all levels.
