After scouring Hokkaido by helicopter to find the ultimate location, the developer of Kiroro Ski Resort chose a picturesque mountain basin above the coastline just north of Niseko. Whether partly luck or pure genius, they discovered a place that gets more consistent, pure dry powder snow than almost any ski resort in Hokkaido, let alone the world. It truly is a powder paradise.

Staying at Yu Kiroro – the first ski-in/ski-out condominium to be rolled out as part of an extensive resort wide masterplan – you are literally steps away from the world’s finest powder snow. Yu Kiroro prides itself on fine hospitality and designing your stay like it’s your home away from home.

Apartments, suites and an exclusive pair of penthouses are designed to be a sanctuary guests can retreat to after a day in the snow, where they can enjoy solitude and peace as snow falls constantly outside. A key direction for the architects was to ensure every space in the apartments from the living areas to the bedrooms captured the spectacular views, resulting in endless immersion in your winter wonderland escape.

We had a wonderful stay. From impeccable service to stunning surroundings, every aspect of Yu Kiroro exceeded my expectations. The ambiance is one of understated opulence: modern design using natural materials. The apartments themselves are lovely: spacious, quiet and super comfortable. Truly nothing short of extraordinary.

From the moment we walked through the front entrance we felt at ease. The lobby has a great vibe and a cool bar with wooden high bars outside and outdoor fire pit plus indoors seating with furs. The restaurants are brilliant, easy access to the lifts and I recommend trying the private onsen. If you are looking to visit Kiroro this is the best option by far!

The place itself is very good. If you come solo or with family or friends it’ll be a great experience. Come prepared with enough drinks snacks etc because no convenience stores here as far as Otaru or Kutchan. Also gas stations are very far away. Route to Kiroro from Otaru side is very curvy so please drive slowly and carefully.

Best Ski Resort and most special service ever. My wife needed Gluten free meals and I needed Soy Free. We called ahead to check if our requirements were able to be catered for, and to our supprise and joy the management confirmed we would be looked after. On our arrival we meet with chief JV and were asured he would make our holiday a special experience. To our supprise JV and his staff had prepared a special Gluten and Soy menu for our seven day stay. The meals were great and the service even better. At the end of our stay we felt like we were leaving family.

The restaurant, Yukashi has amazing dinner options. Highly recommend the local speciality Zangi Chicken, crab salad. They have take away options and the portions are enough for 2-3 adults. Kids play room available, gym is located next to the kids room which was very convenient. Frequent shuttle buses to Kiroro resort. The rooms are very spacious and have all the amenities.

Moreover, it is conveniently located, 3min to Kiroro resort by free shuttle bus running every 30 minutes. The best place for the ones who wanna enjoy snow sports without hassle.

Just heads up!! You better pack well with groceries as full kitchen set in every apartment, and they have only one restaurant and bar which are quite pricy.

The apartment we booked for our trip even exceeded our expectations: large, clean and well furnished apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room and a super functional kitchen with everything we needed, but what really made the difference was waking up with a view of a snowy panorama of shocking beauty, which you can hardly get out of your head. The Resort staff is professional, but at the same time friendly and incredibly helpful, always there for any kind of problem we had. When you wake up in your hotel bed on the last day and you don’t want to leave.. you know your stay has been amazing. From prior to arrival dealing with Michelle at the front desk to being greeted on arrival, her friendly helpfulness was fantastic. The reception greeted our family with warmth, and Allan was welcoming and always there to assist in making our stay unforgettable. He was attentive and always seemed on hand to answer any questions we had. A definite asset to Yu Kiroro.

From the amazing service in the restaurant where the head chef Takuya gave personal attention to our special dietary requirements and Nana and all the wait staff were welcoming and friendly. The foyer looked like it was straight out of a magazine, and our suite was spacious and comfortable. The large bedrooms; lounge with kitchen facilities made things easy and an internal space complete with washing machine and drying room for our ski gear was a valuable addition with the Ski Valet completing the full ski-in/ski-out experience of our stay.

Despite worldwide staff shortages and the effects clearly reaching Yu Kiroro, Lothar went above and beyond, leading his team on the ground to ensure our experience was a memorable one. Nothing was an issue for him or any of his team, and as such, I can’t recommend Yu Kiroro highly enough.

We were a family of four (chidren aged 3 and 11) staying at Yu Kiroro in January 2023. The place is stunning and the snow was perfection – proper Japow! It is easy to ski back to the hotel but it is quite a flat track back so it won’t be a fast trip back! Due to the kids club at the main mountain centre not operating as advertised, I was stuck as my 3 yo really didn’t like the snow and there was obviously no babysitting service (which was a big reason we decided to go there!!).

This had nothing to do with Yu Kiroro and this is where their service came into it’s own. Loeter the GM bent over backwards for us trying to arrange his hospitality staff to commit to childcare for my little girl, offering to change rosters etc to help – they were all so kind – special mentions go to super sweet Nan in the restaurant and Alan the Manager who pulled out all stops to arrange my transfer back to Sapporo as I decided to head back to Tokyo early. This place is very special, beautifully equipped and exceeded our expectations – it is directly opposite the chondola or you can take the shuttle service to the mountain centre close by. The restaurant is also amazing.

It is everything you would expect from a 5 star resort and the staff have everything to do with that. Just if you are relying on services provided that are advertised by the mountain centre (again, nothing to do with Yu Kiroro), it would be worthwhile shooting them an email to make sure they have resumed operations, undoubtably this was due to COVID however it made a real impact to my trip. I would definitely stay at Yu Kiroro again when I next visit!

Kiroro ski area great for family with easy slopes for children, groomed slopes and lots powder off psite, very beautiful. Yu Kiroro restaurant is very nice although not as many choices outside as new resort is being renovated maybe next time is more places. Also staff very busy but I think after Covid situation should be able to get more staff to help. Definitely we come back!

One of the most luxurious condotels in Hokkaido & “Powder” Snow Wonderland

It was definitely the right decision to stay at Yu Kiroro for our girls gathering holiday in Hokkaido in mid January. From the first impression when we traveled on the shuttle bus from Otaru-Chikko station to the hotel, we could see the luxurious building and the dreamy lit Christmas tree amidst the snow wonderland. The lobby was decorated with warm fireplace overlooking a big high floor to ceiling glass window to a beautiful scenery of pine tress covered in thick white snow. This place was very well designed. It was luxury, yet warm and cozy. The lighting combined with the colours and paintings used in the decoration around the hall, the elevator was posh and cheerful in contrast with the cold white colour outside. The check in was very efficient.

We stayed in a two-bedroom suite. The suite was very clean and spacious. We had a kitchen for ourselves and a large living room. Again, the room has great floor-to-ceiling height and a big glass window overlooking the snowy mountain. The furniture within the living room was comfortable. We had a dining table to enjoy our meal, Hokkaido-made desserts that we got from Otaru and local drinks (Famous local whiskey and sake). The bathroom was very functional, the amenity was generous, the bed and the pillows are only going to melt you in.

We had breakfast and dinner at Yukashi, the only restaurant in the hotel. The dishes was beautifully plated, using high quality local ingredient (Akaigawa Rice, Hokkaido Seafood, local tomatoes and sweetest corn). During the course of our stay for 3 nights, we tried almost 10 dishes and we would give 9.5/10 on average to all the dishes. Some dishes that you cannot miss are the Lobster Linguine, Katsu Curry (We asked for higher spice level, which is even better) and Seafood Risotto. For dessert, I highly recommend Sake Tiramisu.

The quality of the snow at the ski trail was amazing especially after the second night of our stay when we had over 20 cm of snowfall overnight. The snow was unlike any other places we have been and it was perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Even some of us do not ski or snowboard, they still enjoy the whole experience of food scene, the beauty of the nature that we cannot find in our hectic daily lives. The energy of the place combined with the serene of the nature are a powerful charge for our mind. Traveling to this place with good friends, and our beloved ones will be an incredible experience in a life time. I will be back.

    We will be back!

We were attracted to Yu Kiroro because of their serviced apartments as it would give our group of six the opportunity to gather together in the comfort and privacy of our own living room.

    What worked:
Spacious, well appointed and tastefully designed apartments with requisite creature comforts to make this a home away from home. The apartments that we stayed in also had lovely views of the ski resort.

Everything to love, the best of Kiroro!

At time of review in January 2022, Yu Kiroro is the most high-end luxurious hotel with service apartment layouts that offer an excellent stay, relax and ski-in-out experience. Everything was pristine and new, the public onsen offered within the hotel felt more like a private onsen as there are very few guests, the small kids play room is also a nice break for your little ones. Everything to love, the private and heartwarming service made me felt well looked after, a home away from home luxury accommodation.

    World class at last!

This last year has seen massive investment into prime accommodations at Japan’s best resorts – providing an alternative to the sad 1990 era properties. Yu Kiroro is one of these. Ski in ski out serviced condo luxury! Great, western oriented service ethic. Still, sadly, no apres ski culture (a Japanese thing) The Onsen would be too small if the property was at even half-occupancy, however.

    Beautiful new apartment hotel

Yu Kiroro is a ski in ski out hotel with ski valet and an excellent restaurant. Their onsen is lovely and the foyer is stunning. The 2 bedroom deluxe apartment we stayed in was very well appointed with stunning views of the new gondola.

    Super clean and comfortable

1.5 hours from CTS airport by shuttle bus (advanced booking). We stayed in a 2 bedrooms apartment with beautiful mountain view. The room is large, fully furnished, kitchenware and coffee machine.
Comfortable bed. All staff are friendly and helpful, English, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai speaking.

Luxury at the foot of the ski slopes

The Yu Kiroro is a new luxury hotel/residence building located at the foot of the Kiroro Ski Resort in Niseko. We chose the Yu Kiroro to spend a holiday weekend, and as a place for our daughter to enjoy her first ski trip. Instead of talking a shuttle or public transportation, we opted to rent a car at the Nippon Rental Car office near the Chitose Airport. Foreign visitors will need an international drivers license and a credit card in order to rent a car in Japan. But the rental process is painless, and much more efficient than you would find in an American city.

If you are renting a car, rent through Alamo or another American company, they are affiliated with Nippon Rental Car. You can get your points with Alamo or National, and book through their sites instead of having to try to navigate through a Japanese car rental site. After picking up your bags, just go to the car rental desk. They will give you a number, and ask you stand by until the shuttle comes, the bus driver will take you to the bus. Keep track of your number, it will be called as soon as you arrive at the car rental counter. We were in and out of the car rental agency in 10 minutes.

The drive to Yu Kiroro is around 90 minutes, but is not complicated. The car navigation systems have an English option, and they work very well. We rented a midsize car with all-wheel-drive and snow tires for about $90 per day, including all options for insurance. Traffic was not bad, despite being a weekday. Upon arrival at the Yu Kiroro, we were impressed by the exterior of the hotel, which was quite modern and very stylish. Parking is free, and we found an open spot near the front door. The staff were all international, that is, no Japanese, so there was no language barrier to overcome. We were given a tour of the property and facilities, and given a look at our room. Though check-in time wasn’t until 3pm, we were able to get into our room as soon as we arrived, which was a little after noon. The style of the hotel is a little reminiscent of the Conrad hotel in Tokyo, but with a more mountain-esque theme.

The Yu Kiroro is a luxury residence, with a luxury price. However, the staff who work at the hotel are mainly young people spending the season in Hokkaido. They are not as polished or service-conscious as staff members at your usual luxury hotel, however, they are kind and as helpful as can be. Our room was large and comfortable, and had all the amenities we could ask for. It included a kitchenette, a washer/dryer, and the usual bathroom articles. The bed was very comfy, and the sofa folds out into a bed. The wifi is fast and free, and works well throughout the property. Cellular service is also very good in the area around the hotel and ski slopes.

The lobby has a small lounge where you can relax before or after hitting the slopes. There is a ski valet adjacent to the lobby where you can keep your skis. The resort is a ski-in, ski-out, with a lift nearby which can take you up to the Mountain Center. Ski rentals are available next door at The Kiroro, about 2 minutes walk. You can rent your equipment, buy your lift tickets, and arrange for classes all in one place. The ski valet will pick up everything and bring it to the Yu Kiroro for you.

Facilities include a kids room with games, books, and some toys, a fitness center, and an onsen bath. The on-site restaurant was quite good, and reasonably priced (at least it was reasonable compared to the prices in our local restaurants in Roppongi). Our room included breakfast, and I can say that it was the best hotel breakfast I have had since we stayed at the Tiara Yaksta at Theoule Sur Mer, which is a 5 star resort. The Yu Kiroro has a shuttle van which can take you to nearby places, the van can usually be ready at the door in 5 minutes. The Mountain Center is just at the top of the road, and whatever you cannot find at the Yu Kiroro, you can find at the Mountain Center.

The downside of the property are that it is rather remote, and the nearest place you can do any real shopping is at least a 40 minute drive away. The routes recommended by car navigation may be closed due to snow, and if you cannot figure out how to get the navigation to show alternate routes, you might get a little perplexed. It is a good idea to use a map application on your phone should the car navigation lead you to a closed road (as ours did).

Another thing to be wary of is unpredictable weather. The weather reports in Niseko are unreliable, as the weather is impossible to predict more than a few hours in advance. If the report promises heavy snow tomorrow, you are just as likely to have a sunny and clear day. Niseko also gets windy, and if winds are strong, the lifts will be closed down. Bring a book to read, or if you are renting a car, take a trip to Otaru if you cannot get on the lifts.

We enjoyed our stay at the Yu Kiroro enough that we plan to make it an annual event.

    We loved it!

Yu Kiroro was an absolute highlight at the end of our three week trip. While the room, location and amenity were all excellent, it was the thoughtful generosity of the team at Yu Kiroro that made our stay so worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who sent us home so well looked after, relaxed and happy – we’d give you ten stars if we could. x

    Hidden gem

Stayed with couple friends with skiing, good dining and relaxation in mind. Hotel right on ski fields with “ski in and out” and valet. First class accomodation, facilities and service. And the snow was excellent with no crowds the entire time. I’ll be back for certain
