Wadano Forest Hotel Bedroom with Seating Area | Upper Wadano

The Wadano Forest Hotel is a delightful, Western-style hotel with spacious rooms. Originally built by Japanese owners back in the 1980s, the building retains its quaint Japanese alpine styling: polished hardwood wall panels and floors, carved wooden furniture and exposed wood beams adding to the charm. The place has taken on new life with western management but you can still find unique decorations throughout.

There are 20 rooms altogether across five floors. Most are twin rooms where bed can be combined into one king-sized bed, with several triple and quad rooms also available. Each room has Western bedding, plenty of storage, an LCD TV for entertainment, and a private en suite bathroom with a bath and shower unit, and separate toilet.

On the ground floor there’s also a public onsen bath, with men’s and women’s baths separate – give your body a break from the slopes and soak in a giant hot tub, Japanese style! A large ski storage and drying room keeps your gear safe, dry and ready for every day. Breakfast is served daily in the dining hall of the pension next door. If you want help finding your way around, the front desk has all the local knowledge and can even help you arrange lessons, taxis, and restaurants. Or if you prefer to stay in, free high-speed WiFi will keep you busy!

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Situated in a private, peaceful area in Hakuba’s Upper Wadano, the hotel is conveniently located and provides great access to various resorts throughout the valley. Enjoy views of snow-covered forests from every room in the hotel.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

As with anywhere in the Hakuba Valley, you have a huge selection of ski resorts to choose from if the shuttle stop is nearby – here three different village shuttles are 2, 3 and 5 minutes’ walk away. Wadano Forest Hotel is near the Happo One Mountain, with the Sakka Slope only 500 metres away and bigger lifts and slopes a short drive.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Nestled around the hotel and surrounds are a bunch of local restaurants, cafes and bars – part of the fun in Hakuba is exploring secret spots dotted around the neighbourhood. Check out Azekura Sanso for an “onsen” hot spring experience, with private baths available for the crowd-shy.

    An amazing experience
Our family of 4 visited a Wadano Forest Hotel in February. We had the most wonderful stay! The room was spacious and with one huge and two single beds that were super comfy. The rooms are heated, and we really enjoyed a picturesque view of the forest filled with snow from our window.

We can’t say enough about the service we received from Becky and Tom, who offered pick-up drop-off services from our arrival until departure including running us to the snow slopes each day. They were always available for advice on where to eat, what to see and what ever else we needed. The onsen was fantastic, as not too many people seemed to be using it, my daughter and I had it to ourselves and after a long day skiing in -6 degrees it was bliss!

Breakfast was wonderful with a variety of western style foods which varied a little every day, the fussy kids really enjoyed it too. Restaurants and shops were a 5 minute walk away, with all types on offer.

We loved staying at Wadano Forest hotel and are already looking forward to returning one day, thank you so much to Becky and Tom, you made our stay memorable and extra special, hopefully we will see you again soon!

    Beyond all Expectations!

We stayed for 6 nights at Wadano Forest Hotel and couldn’t have picked a better place to stay.

First off the location seems not central, but you can pretty much go to everywhere you need to get to from this area. If you catch a snow shuttle into town when you arrive and are waiting at either bus terminal in Happo or Echoland, give the AMAZING staff a call & they’ll most likely arrange a pick up for you & all your luggage.

The Sakka slope is a very quick walk down the road (or you can ride there from across the road). From there, you can get to most places in the Happo area by the local loop buses. There are also a bunch of restaurants within walking distance (5mins).

Our room was quite large and very clean. Everything about the bed was so comfortable. The shower was clean & spacious, with great water pressure. The toilet was clean and in a separate room from the shower. Basic tea, coffee, a fridge & a kettle were provided.

The free breakfast is pretty good. Always some hot dishes which varied daily, with other basics, such as toast, cereal, tea, coffee, etc. The breakfast dining is in a separate building, so you have to rug up and switch from your slippers (they provide them) for shoes to get there, but its worth it.

I did not check out the Onsen, but I was told that it was really, really nice.

Finally, Becky and Tom, went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. They are so helpful to everyone. They can help out with dinner bookings, restaurant suggestions, local recommendations, etc. If you need anything, they do their best to help.

I highly recommended this hotel and can’t wait to come back!

Family of 3 stayed at Wadano Forest Hotel for 4 nights for our first ski trip in Japan and had a great time. Tom and Becky really made us feel welcome and had lots of recommendations to help make our stay perfect. Although the location is great for the slopes, Tom’s bus service around Hakuba was invaluable travelling with a toddler and ski equipment to the ski school. Room was a good size and very clean and warm.
