“Momiji” is a type of tree, famous for delicate leaves that turn red in the fall. This three-storey lodge is fittingly set in pristine forests on the edge of Otari town, with Norikura resort a short stroll away. Lodge staff are on site and in contact with you throughout the stay, from pick up at train or bus stops, and rides to meet the free shuttles running to local resorts, to assistance booking tours and lift passes during your stay.
The lodge itself is a Japanese style pension, remade with modern interiors. Hard wood floors, high ceilings and reclaimed timber beams from an old brewery will make you feel like you’re in a Swiss Chalet, enhanced by quirky alpine Japanese touches.
There are a total of eight guest bedrooms: two standard rooms that use a shared toilet, four superior rooms with their own ensuites and two family rooms that sleep up to five guests. Each room is spacious, with flat-screen TVs and Apple TV, individual heating units. The rooms also get cleaned daily, with linen changed every four days.
The lodge itself features a cosy restaurant and bar with a wood log fire, an English book library and seating space where you can relax, and a Japanese style tub that can be booked for private use free of charge.
