On 2 August, a tourist was stung by a hornet near the second station on Mt. Yotei Kutchan Hirafu route and later passed away.
Although the hornet’s nest was removed from the site, there are worker drones still buzzing around the area.
There is a detour which avoids the area at the moment, and the normal Hirafu route is expected to reopen on Monday, 9 August.
Please be aware and watchful – especially with small children – as hornets are vigorously active this year because of the hot weather.
The other three courses (Makkari, Kyogoku, Kimombetsu) are not effected, though normal caution is advised.
