Upper Hirafu – Sushi
From ¥10,000/person

Fresh, seasonal seafood served in sashimi and nigiri-sushi styles.

Sushi Wakatake is a modern Michelin-pedigree addition to Niseko’s fine dining scene, and fresh sushi isn’t the only thing on offer – check out these spectacular views!

Sushi Wakatake has taken over prime real estate on the top floor of the handsomely designed Odin Place building, in the center of Niseko’s Hirafu Village. The focus is on fresh, seasonal seafood served in sashimi and nigiri-sushi styles, with a series of course menus available to choose from – with a la carte options for those wishing to pick and choose.

Sushi Wakatake originally opened in Sapporo’s wealthy Maruyama district in 2009. In 2012 it received Michelin’s Bib Gourmand, an honor awarded for serving top-notch meals for reasonable prices.

There are 30 seats in all, tables and counters included – and at this restaurant, the counter seats might be the preferred option! One counter faces along the expansive glass walls that look out towards Mt Yotei. The view is uninterrupted and absolutely stunning, the kind usually reserved for penthouse suites and premium hotel rooms.

Or choose the chef’s counter to enjoy the option of a special chef’s course dinner with contents changing daily and handpicked by the chef for that day. Each round of nigiri-sushi, sashimi, and traditional side dishes are cooked in front of you and served directly to your table in the traditional, intimate sushi restaurant fashion.

For each course, paired sakes are chosen by the head chef, while paired wines are chosen by the sommelier.
