Superfly: The ten year party continues in Niseko

By 8th December 2013March 22nd, 2021

If you’ve been in Niseko for any period of time you will have heard that Wild Bill’s offers regular live DJs and a rollicking good time. If you went to their Opening Party on Friday night, you will know it for a fact! Investigate a little further and you will discover Superfly, a new weekly DJ event that boasts an intriguing history extending far beyond Wild Bill’s and Niseko.

Superfly started ten years ago when two UK students made a pact in a ‘hedonistic haze’ to create a DJ event that would mix things up, both figuratively and musically.

“Basically we just wanted to play the music we were passionate about – and thankfully we pulled it off,” says promoter and DJ, Ben Proudlove (pictured above). “We were a breakbeat party initially, which was a really popular genre of music at the time. But, like all good parties, we evolved.”

And evolve they did.  Superfly has hosted parties in Liverpool, London, Manchester, Berlin, and Ibiza, and is now hanging its hat in Hirafu! The weekly party is all about good music and good friends, and the plan is to invite a wide range of guest DJs who bring their own style to Superfly. In fact, if you would like to play at the event, please contact Ben Proudlove on Facebook.

I’m not very cool when it comes to music, so it took a lot of chatting with Ben for me to get my head around the scope of the Superfly outfit. But now that I’m educated, I’m really looking forward to their season launch party on the 11th at Bill’s. I’m going to make a genuine effort to get musically cooler!

superflyposterSuperfly promoter Ben comments, “I think what is really special about Superfly is that regardless of where our lives have taken us, we’ve kept the party alive. We ran events in so many places and always made it work. To go into our 11th year in Japan is an amazing feeling.”

Head down to Bill’s this Wednesday to check out Hip Hip, House, Techno and Indie Dance from resident DJs Ben Proudlove and Loz, as they kick off a season of weekly events designed to show us all a good time!
