Snow bugs to bring big falls?

By 25th October 2010June 28th, 2014Niseko Snow Report

WITH the first big snowfall forecast to hit Niseko Tuesday, theories about whether it’s going to be a big one or not are in the air.

If the snow does eventuate, it will be a particularly early village-level first snowfall (a week earlier than last year), and there have been lots of yukimushi (snowbugs) around this year (pictured).

Plenty of people are pointing towards the severity of the summer this year as reason to expect a similarly severe winter.

It seems every year, regardless of the signs, people find some way to forecast a big winter.

Last year they were right, with one of the biggest seasons in the past decade.

And if you look back to one of the other big recent seasons 2005/06, it came right on the heels of another in 2004/05.

Can it be said big seasons often come in twos? Let’s throw that theory in the mix!

Powderlife.com will be bringing you all the latest on recent snowfalls in the leadup to season opening in about a month's time, and stay tuned to our snow forecast to make your own predictions.
