THE search for missing Australian Scott McKay has been suspended after extensive searches in the area failed to turn up any evidence of his whereabouts.

Mr McKay, 27, disappeared after leaving a local bar around midnight on February 19 and apparently walking back to his accommodation about 15-minutes walk away.

The search has baffled investigators and locals as it was there was no snow on the evening of his disappearance but there were still no clues as to where he might have gone.

Heavy snow and wind in the days afterwards hindered the search by covering any tracks or other evidence that may indicate his whereabouts.

Australia’s Sapporo consulate said the search had been suspended and Mr McKay’s family had returned to Australia.
