A very satisfying steak dinner at Rosso Rosso

By 16th January 2014March 22nd, 2021

Sometimes a girl just needs a steak, especially after a solid month of powder days! Many restaurants in Hirafu have steak on the menu, but Steak Rosso Rosso does a great job of owning the title of the only dedicated steak house in town.

There are many options on the menu, but I highly recommend the set course, the price of which varies depending on the cut and size of the steak you choose.

In the spirit of embracing Japanese culture, I forwent the Aussie beef and opted for the slightly more expensive Hokkaido sirloin. The set was about ¥5,000 and included a choice of appetizer, entrée, and side dish, as well as a sorbet for dessert.

The creamy Hokkaido corn soup appetiser looked satisfyingly thick and tasty, but I felt very content with my rice croquettes, which were incredible bites of cheesy flavour. The bacon wrapped scallops were also a juicy mouthful, and that is all I managed to scam off my dining buddy – a juicy mouthful. My own choice of asparagus spring rolls really hit the spot, that is, the spot in me that always craves spring rolls.

And then came the steak. Sizzling on a cast-iron skillet accompanied by a side of perfect Hokkaido potato wedges, my medium rare sirloin was a sight for sore eyes. The skillet also had a little raised platform, which by some ninja magic stayed hot long after the rest, providing the opportunity to sear each bite a little bit more if you so wished. My steak was cooked to perfection, but I sizzled some slices just for the fun of it!

The dipping sauce was flavourful, but didn’t take away from the natural scrumptiousness of the beef. Each mouthful was a pure delight to my usually noodle-inundated tongue, and was perfectly accompanied by a glass of the house red, an excellent cabernet merlot.

My sizzling sirloin... take me back!

The yuzu sorbet was the perfect end to the meal, and I reluctantly left the delicious-smelling restaurant wondering how soon would be too soon to return.
