Reindeer sledding at the Hilton

By 16th January 2012August 27th, 2013

CHRISTMAS might be over, but you can still find Santa’s reindeer outside the Hilton in Niseko Village. You will be taken for a five-minute ride and can take as many pictures as you want. Reindeers are a type of deer found in the Arctic region and can weigh as much as 120kg. They can easily pull twice their own weight, which means your whole family could sit in the sled.

Their large broad hooves act like snowshoes and emit a clicking sound caused by a tendon on the foot rubbing against bone as the animal walks. Try and hear it while you’re in the sled! They are also able to sniff-out food even when buried under deep snow. You can try reindeer sledding from January 21 to January 31 between 10 am and 3.30 pm daily. It’s ¥2100 for adults and ¥1580 per child.
