SEVENTEEN keen triathletes from Hong Kong and Tokyo spent this week in Niseko tuning their swim, bike and run skills.

Led by the Hong Kong national team and IHP triathlon coach, Kevin Clark the guests enjoyed great weather for their training camp.

The participants cycled to Lake Toya before enjoying a swim session in the Lake and a picnic lunch under clear blue skies and warm weather.

Hanazono, the Alpen 25m pool, and the area’s great cycling roads were also used for training sessions.

The campers joined in the Niseko town half marathon on Sunday to wind up their training week, before flying out Sunday evening.

Coach Clark was very impressed with Niseko’s facilities and climate.

"I think I’ve found my new favourite training destination" said Clark, who hopes to return in the future with the Hong Kong national triathlon team.

The camp was hosted by Nisade and the Titons triathlon training club.

Niseko has long been known to locals as an excellent endurance sport training base and with the recent success of Niseko cycle week and a rumours of an Ironman 70.3 triathlon coming to Lake Toya, it seems Niseko has a great chance to develop as a world renowned endurance sporting base.
