Ice Art Project, Hirafu Upper Village

By 6th February 2010August 27th, 2013

BE sure to visit the incredible crystal palace-like ice bar that is the Ice Art Project!

The structure’s creator, Hirohiko Takenaka, comes from Eniwa City near Chitose Airport, and grew up watching his father create ice sculptures for the nearby ice festival at Lake Shikotsuko – the huge lake that most people pass on their way to Niseko from the airport.

From the time he was six years old he knew he wanted to become an artist using natural materials.

He built the first ice bar in the Middle Village five years ago, and next to blo*blo bar three years ago.

Check it out, and if you like what you see, buy a drink to help Takenaka-san continue his work!
