This morning at 10am Hirafu No. 3 gate "the peak gate" opened for the first time this season. Powder lovers were lined up and when the ski patrol gave the go, a stream of hundreds of skiers headed for the peak. The conditions were fantastic and riders were rewarded with views from the Sea of Japan to the pacific ocean, followed by thigh deep powder runs no matter which way they came down. The gates are scheduled to open again tomorrow and continued snowfalls mean the tracks from today should be covered in.
