THE ladies of Niseko got the ball rolling for Niseko Golf Week at the Alpen Hotel Park Golf Course at the base of Grand Hirafu yesterday.

Tomoka Kakuta took first place in the Niseko Ladies Park Golf Open 2009 with an impressive one over par 34, collecting a swag of booty including a golf lesson courtesy of John Barton, a Groove Cycle rental pack, a bottle of wine and a Kappa sweatshirt from Niseko Property.

Ladies and gents are playing all week long at courses across the region’s many golf courses and recording their results at the end of each day to win prizes for lowest score, most games played, and any eagles and holes in one.

First results in show Dale Riva has the early lead with 80 at the beautiful Fukui course, backed up with an 85 there today, while Chris Lane has logged a 98.

The highlight of the week will be the Rusutsu 9-Hole Night Golf Tourney under lights at the nearby Rusutsu on Tuesday night.

Golf Week wraps up on Friday afternoon with a Closest to the Pin Pitching Contest in the centre of town, followed by an after party at Downtown Café.
