I know what you’re thinking – two posts in one day, Joan? But the Oyster Shack is only in town for a few more nights, and I wanted to tell you about it before you miss out forever!
The Oyster Shack, or Kakigoya, is actually an establishment in Suttsu, a seaside town a few hours away from Niseko, famous for its fresh all-you-can-eat seafood. They are visiting Niseko for one week only and have their shack up outside of Shiki.
It is literally a shack – well, a tent anyway, but the interior is made very cosy by the charcoal grill, which is just waiting to cook your chosen shellfish to perfection.
The glorious Hokkaido seafood is represented at its very best, with big, juicy oysters, sea snails, scallops, and king crab legs available to be tossed fresh onto the grill and then straight into your mouth.
Cheerful staff members Yoshino and Yamazaki are ready to cook your mouthwatering selection to perfection, and, just between you and me, I think it would be okay to bring a sneaky beverage of the alcoholic persuasion.
If seafood gets you excited and you want to experience the quintessential Hokkaido seafood experience, trundle down the shack outside Shiki between 6-10pm before the 28th, and catch these fishermen before they take their haul back to Suttsu!
