First snowfall on village level

By 14th November 2011August 27th, 2013

After a sunny weekend with temperatures in the double digits in Niseko, the weather has taken a drastic change. For the first time this winter season of 2011/12, it is snowing in Hirafu Village. Mt Yotei and Mt Annupuri were green and barren yesterday, and today they are covered with a dusting of snow.

Today isn’t the first time Niseko has seen snow this autumn; on October 26 snow fell as low as 700 meters, but today is the first time it has reached village level. The snow back in October was washed away shortly after it fell with rain, but this time, according to long term forecasts, it looks like the snow is here to stay.

Village temperatures are predicted to hover around freezing level all week, and mid to upper mountain levels are forecasted with lows of -8C and windchills as cold as -17C. This could be an early beginning to another world-famous Niseko powder season!
