East meets West for classic concert

By 9th January 2010August 27th, 2013

LOCAL Taiko drummers will keep the beat when the internationally renowned Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) comes to town this month.

The ACO and the dynamic Youtei Taiko Serve Association Drummers will team up at Kutchan Concert Hall on January 15 and 16 (7pm), followed by a January 17 gig at Hanazono 308 (7pm).

They will also play a private show for VIPs at The Hilton at Niseko Village.

Featuring scores from Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart and more, the concerts are part of the new Niseko Winter Music Festival from January 15-17, created by the ACO’s artistic director, feisty violinist and avid skier, Richard Tognetti.

“When we found out that one of the best Taiko drumming groups worked in Kutchan, we pounced,” he said.

“The Taiko drummers will be an exciting, inspiring addition because traditional Taiko drumming is very strong ceremonial music.”
