CAC Avalanche Skills Training Course March 5-6

Hokkaido Powder Guides’ avalanche courses are taught by certified guides and follow the curriculum established by the Canadian Avalanche Center. The courses combine theory and practical skills to teach you basic safety knowledge for winter backcountry travel. This will assist you in making better decisions in avalanche terrain.

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 Course provides an entry-level decision-making framework that is based on the most advanced knowledge available. The course is highly recommended to anyone venturing in to the backcountry and provides participants with a good understanding of avalanche fundamentals and safe mountain travel.

Topics covered include formation of avalanches
– factors affecting snow-pack
– route finding
– safety equipment usage
– snow-pack observation and assessment

2 Day Course : 2 field days and a night session (suited to skiers using skins or snow-shoes to access isolated backcountry terrain)
