Bustling Niseko summer kicks off

By 11th June 2011June 28th, 2014Niseko Snow Report

NISEKO summer bookings have increased following electricity restrictions that have forced reduced airconditioner usage in Tokyo.

Thousands of Honshu (main island) residents are booking longer-term summer stays in Hokkaido in search of cooler weather.

Niseko booking agents have reported an increase in summer booking numbers due to the electricity restrictions.

Japan is renowned for its distinct seasons, and the summers in most of Japan's major cities can be particularly uncomfortable with weather in the high 30s (95-100F) every day and humidity close to 100 per cent throughout July and August.

Hokkaido's summers are typically around 25C (77F), with low humidity and no real rainy season.

Together with the snowmelt, the warmer weather has delivered an array of activities to enjoy, and Niseko has an exciting summer of events planned.

The Niseko Hill Climb bike race returns for its second year in August, with more high-profile entrants racing from the town centre in Kutchan up Mt Annupuri to Goshiki Onsen.
