Backcountry Safety

By 12th December 2009June 28th, 2014

NISEKO is renowned for its liberal, open-minded stance when it comes to its wide expanse of backcountry. But with that freedom comes the responsibility of the skier or snowboarder Niseko’s powder may look soft and friendly, but it is as deadly and dangerous as it is light and fluffy…

Powderlife has collected tips from local experts to help keep you safe out there in Niseko’s backcountry. Just remember, all the equipment and knowledge in the world are no substitute for due caution and common sense.

Note: beginner skiers and those not interested in going off the groomed runs needn’t worry about these sorts of dangers – the groomed runs are at no risk of avalanche.
