Niseko Snow Report // January 29 // 2010

By 29th January 2010June 28th, 2014Niseko Snow Report

Not much fresh snow in the last 24 hours – about 10cms all up – though that looks set to change this afternoon.

We’re expecting snow to build throughout the day and to get good falls tonight and tomorrow night. Winds out of the west should be moderate, though stronger at altitude and in exposed areas. Please be aware that mountain weather is very changeable.

Peak gates are set to open today from around 10.00. Check with patrol and get the most up to date Avalanche info here before heading out. There have been a couple of lucky escapes recently – people (Japanese & foreigners) heading out into the backcountry without sufficient experience, knowledge, or equipment. Bear in mind that one death through this kind of conscious disregard of basic safety may close all of Niseko’s backcountry for ever and with it a good percentage of Niseko’s international appeal. Let’s try to maintain our really good safety record for everyone’s sake! (hold on while I climb down from my soapbox)

Go grab yourself a few nice turns and know that it will be getting better as the day progresses…
