Shiretoko Peninsula is one of the most remote and spectacularly rugged places in Japan. A high mountainous spine rears up from a narrow coastal plain characterised by weathered basalt cliffs over which numerous rivers and hot spring waterfalls tumble down into an aqua ocean.
