I had a friend tell me today that he went to a big ski gear clearance shop in Otaru last year, somewhere near the water. Anyone know what he was talking about? Any good deals?

I think your friend went to wing bay otaru outlet center. Yes there is a sport store and they have some skis for sale. Can't help you with the prices as I don't ski so I don't know if it is cheap or now. But as far as I remember it was all above 20k yen ski only (no binding included). They don't sell snowboard at all. There is a good snowboard/ski shop near wing bay otaru called Alpen (10-15 minutes walk), I wouldnt be able to give you directions but taxi driver might be able to take you there
