Ramen is Chinese noodles, Japanese style. Cold Hokkaido is famous for its hot ramen – Sapporo for its miso-flavoured variety, while in central Hokkaido, Asahikawa is famous for its soy-sauce version. Hirafu has an authentic Asahikawa ramen restaurant, thanks to Hiroomi Hirokawa, whose parents still run a ramen restaurant in Asahikawa today. Asahikawa Ramen Tozanken is in the big souvenir shop building on Hirafu-Zaka St, just below Paddy McGinty’s.
